SMSF Property Loan Opportunities May Soon Change.


The Australian Government has proposed reforms that could restrict future SMSF borrowing for residential property investments.


In short, SMSFs can continue to hold residential property, but new borrowing to acquire such assets will no longer be permitted. Existing arrangements are expected to be grandfathered, with a 45-day transition period for contracts already in progress.
